About the IBS Register

The IBS Register was founded by Michael Mahoney in 1997. Based at a medical centre, Michael is clinical hypnotherapist who, through medical research project experience and specialising in treating IBS with hypnotherapy, developed specific hypnotherapy processes to assist IBS sufferers to mitigate their symptoms, and in some cases remove the symptoms of IBS altogether.

The IBS Register provides detailed training to professional hypnotherapists who want to specialise in the field of IBS and hypnosis.  Therapists in various disciplines are listed on this site for your convenience.

Michael Mahoney is committed to being part of the vital link between orthodox and complementary medicine.

In July 1998 we sponsored and assisted in the organisation of the United Kingdom's first IBS Awareness Evening, held at Liverpool University, bringing together complementary therapists from different disciplines, drug companies, over the counter medicine (OTC), health professionals etc, all under one roof for IBS patients to seek solutions, gather information, discuss therapies and IBS issues and to sample various methods of treatment.

Members of the IBS Register include:

  • medical background therapists with complementary medicine training,
  • medical research project experienced therapists, and
  • therapists who specialise in IBS treatment within their chosen field.

We look to provide close links with IBS support groups, in some cases we can supply a local therapist to give talks to IBS support groups.

Originally the IBS Register was UK focussed and specialised exclusively with Hypnotherapists, since hypnotherapy is a proven and effective treatment for IBS, when conducted professionally by experienced, trained therapists. Additionally,  medical research and patient trials over more than 25 years have proven beyond doubt the benefits of professionally conducted hypnotherapy sessions with IBS patients.

Over recent years the IBS Register has attracted attention in other countries and within other disciplines, and this site is now open to sufferers and therapists world-wide. We are seeking to bring reliable information and options of choice to our visitors.

As medical science has moved on, and research continues, we are now understanding more about IBS and its mechanisms, although much more work has yet to be done. In the meantime there are other treatments and therapies which may also aid the IBS sufferer in addition to prescribed & OTC medications, and to this end the IBS Register continues to grow, develop and support both therapists and sufferers.

One such example is the IBS Audio Program 100® which is now used in 39 countries. Since 1999 this home use self help audio program has been helping sufferers around the world. Reputable organisations such as the IBS Network in the UK recognise its uses and benefits to its members. The largest IBS self help group on the internet IBS Group Org advertises the program to its members.  And the webs only site designed especially for IBS sufferers Heather & Co have been distributing the IBS Audio Program 100 for more than 3 years.

This site is funded and administered by the practice of Michael Mahoney, who, since 1995 has helped thousands of IBS sufferers through his medial centre based practice in Warrington, Cheshire England, and through his acclaimed IBS Audio Program 100.

This site is actively administered and will continue to feature new articles and therapists, so bookmark us and come back often. Thank you again for visiting us.
